Children First ~ Excellence Always
A Parent - Teacher Partnership ~ Supporting the Free Horizon Community through Fundraising and Volunteerism.
The Free Horizon Montessori Foundation (the “FHMF”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting Free Horizon Montessori in providing Individualized Instruction, delivering Engaging Curriculum, and supporting a Strong Community.
Through the Community Support Network, also known as the CSN, the Free Horizon Montessori Foundation was created to support the fiscal needs of the school. Since FHM is a Jefferson County Charter School, its fiscal needs and obligations are different than those of a non-charter school. As a non-profit, the FHMF is committed to supporting the Free Horizon Montessori community both financially and in spirit. FHMF Community Support Network focuses on building community, organizing volunteer opportunities, fundraising, and supporting our families, students and staff. The work performed by the CSN enhances many aspects of our school. In addition to providing tuition assistance, free and reduced lunch funding, technological and equipment improvements, and more, the CSN works to build a community where everyone is welcome and collective efforts help to fulfill the day-to-day needs of students and staff.
The CSN Board manages an annual calendar of events and meets monthly to provide updates, work on planning, and celebrate successes. The calendar drives the fundraising and community events coordinated by the CSN. All events are planned a year in advance in order to facilitate financial goal setting, community needs, and school-day schedules.
The CSN is successful because of the participation and dedication of its parents – similar to a PTA. Did you know that every parent at Free Horizon Montessori is a member of the CSN? Your interest, participation and volunteerism make a huge difference here. Your time benefits your family and all of the students at FHM. The members of this network have fostered a strong Parent – Teacher partnership through which we strive to achieve our collective goals for the school. "Research shows that kids with involved parents get better grades, have fewer discipline problems, and are more likely to pass their classes and go on to higher education." (PTO Today Magazine, January 2009)
By committing to fulfill your 30 hours of volunteering, you are of course welcome to volunteer more than 30 hours, you are not only providing immediate help to the children and staff but aiding in the school’s ability to secure grants. When all families meet/exceed their volunteer hours FHM is able to demonstrate a committed community of parents and volunteers which is immensely helpful when applying for grants to continue the pursuit of excellence at FHM. Did you know that every hour volunteered at or for the school has an equivalent worth of about twenty-two dollars??
